Bereavement in the workplace training

Creating a supportive work environment makes a big difference for those going through loss. Making sure colleagues and managers have the skills to support someone who has been through pregnancy or baby loss won’t take away the pain but will help make every day a little easier.

Our training is designed to help employers feel equipped and confident to provide a supportive work environment and implement an effective pregnancy and baby loss policy.

“For me, this training is a ‘must have’ within an organisation. A lot of companies are putting time and money behind mental health training, and this should be considered alongside as both really sit hand in hand. For us being prepared is so important not just for managers, but also for peers.”

Training for colleagues and managers

When someone experiences pregnancy or baby loss, having a kind manager, supportive colleagues, and clear workplace policies can make a real difference. However, it can be hard to find the right words to express how we feel during such a difficult time.

Led by an experienced facilitator the training helps people feel more confident when talking about pregnancy and baby loss and supporting colleagues as they return to work. It also updates knowledge of employment law related to pregnancy and baby loss and offers practical tips and policy advice to help create a caring, modern workplace.

Bereavement in the Workplace e-learning module

This 20-minute training module is accredited by the CPD Certification Service. It helps staff in any workplace understand the impact of pregnancy and baby loss, feel more confident about what to say to a colleague who is grieving, and support a kind and caring workplace.

The training films consist of 3 modules:
Module 1: the impact of baby loss and bereavement at work.
Module 2: Finding the right words.
Module 3: Building a supportive workplace.

“Sands delivered an input to managers and staff across Hertfordshire Constabulary covering a variety of topics around baby loss and entitlements in the workplace. The feedback that I received following this input was amazing and those that attended left feeling more confident in discussing pregnancy or baby loss with their colleagues or employers.

It has helped open discussions at all levels of management within our workforce and there will be a regular session throughout the year to give our managers and staff the confidence in supporting colleagues through their loss, however that looks for them.”
